Varanese, Sara

Sara has a background in architectural heritage and conservation, obtained in Italy at the Polytechnic University in Turin. While working towards her degree, she started traveling to Bhubaneswar (Orissa, India), where she studied Odissi, an Indian Classical Dance style.
She then focused her research on South Asia: she attended an M.A. in Art History at School of Oriental and African Studies (London), with a thesis on dance and music representations on Hindu religious architecture in Orissa (7th to 13th century AD), in which she tried to approach the relationship between architecture and ritual.
She understands architecture as part of an evolving environmental and socio-cultural context, and is interested in architectural space as it is used and experienced.
