Michael is a first year student in the Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies Master’s program. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he received his BFA in Graphic Design from Eastern Michigan University in 2014 and has maintained a steady career in the field of design. This professional experience is what eventually brought him to New Jersey and Rutgers University in early 2019 as faculty for Institutional Planning and Operations. After undertaking a personal genealogical project surrounding his family and heritage, Michael soon found himself interested in the representational systems and frameworks that depict Black Americans and their art & culture, which inevitably led him to the CHAPS program.
