Sopio Gagoshidze, a newly appointed Dodge Lawrence Fellow, is a Rutgers graduate student specializing in medieval Byzantine and Georgian art. Sopio received her B.A. from Tbilisi State Academy of Art with double major in Art History and Restoration/Conservation. In 2012 Sopio attended Summer School for Byzantine studies in Cappadocia (Turkey) with Robert Ousterhout. In 2014 she earned an M.A. in Medieval Art History with high honors from the Tbilisi State Academy of Art. In 2016 and 2017 Sopio took part in different courses: 'Istanbul through the Ages' (Istanbul, Turkey), 'Image and Freedom' (Basel, Switzerland) and a course in museum studies (Nuremberg, Germany). Since 2012 she has been working in the Georgian National Museum, Museum of Art in Tbilisi as an Assistant Curator in the Medieval Department. As Dodge Fellow at the Zimmerli Art Museum, she works as a graduate assistant providing help with exhibition preparation, research, collection care and management.
