Sascha Scott, Rutgers Art History, PhD., received the Frost Essay Award for her article on Georgia O'Keeffe's work for the Dole Pineapple Company. She reflects on the role of the artist in perpetuating settler colonialism and the subjugation of Indigenous Hawaiians. The language of possession that was employed historically by Dole, continued by O’Keeffe herself, and repeated by contemporary scholars has served to amplify this troubling history.  The article, “Georgia O’Keeffe’s Hawai'i?
