Professor Rico has been awarded the Frederick Burkhardt Residential Fellowship for Recently Tenured Scholars by the American Council for Learned Societies. https://www.acls.org/Competitions-and-Deadlines/Frederick-Burkhardt-Participating-Centers She will spend her fellowship year in the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University, during 2020-21. https://casbs.stanford.edu/?act=page&amp%3Bid=204  Her work examines the tensions between cultural heritage preservation and religion in the Muslim world, supported by ethnographic research in the State of Qatar that centers on the rise of heritage industries in the Arabian Peninsula. Through this work, she will expand a field of study that brings together material culture and anthropology in the examination of religious agendas for the preservation of spiritual and secular spaces.
