Course Description:

Celtic, early Irish, and Anglo-Saxon art ca. 800 BC to AD 800.  Emphasis on sculpture, metalwork, and enamel, and manuscript illumination.

This course explores the art of the Celtic world from its origins in Eastern Europe to its use in manuscript illumination and sculpture in medieval Ireland, England, Spain, and France.  Time permitting, we will also include a section on Viking art and architecture.
