Boyle, Brigid

Brigid Boyle is a Ph.D. student specializing in the art and visual culture of nineteenth-century France. After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 2011 with a double major in Art History and French, she earned a Master’s degree in Art History from her alma mater. Her preliminary dissertation research focuses on Jean-Léon Gérôme’s representations of black male figures, building on longstanding interests in social constructions of masculinity and race, notions of self/other, and Orientalism. Prior to pursuing her doctoral studies, she held curatorial positions at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Snite Museum of Art, and participated in excavations in Mursi, Albania.
