Located in historic Voorhees Hall, once home to the Rutgers Library, the Department of Art History at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, offers unique opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students studying art history.
Welcome to the Department of Art History at Rutgers University-New Brunswick! We are committed to the research and teaching of art, architecture, print media, photography and all forms of visual culture from all periods – from the ancient pyramids to Kara Walker. With fourteen faculty members, our Department is home to award-winning teachers and researchers, a thriving graduate program (MA and PhD) and an incredibly rich undergraduate program, where students choose from a range of courses on both European and American historical periods, and wider global traditions including Islamic, Latin American, African and Asian art. Summer programs in Paris and Rome give students the opportunity to study great artistic monuments at first hand, and programs in Curatorial Studies and Historic Preservation expose undergraduate and graduate students to practical issues of curating and preservation through specialized courses and internships.
